6 New Electric Cars to Watch Out for in 2018 & 2019

The electric car sphere look set to heat up over the next couple of years. At lest six new models are expected to be on the market in that time period – each of which promises a range of a minimum of 200 miles. Until recently only Tesla was capable of getting an electric car that far off a single charge.
In this list you will see a mixture of affordable electric cars with a 200-mile range and long range battery electric cars from high-end luxury brands. Let’s take a look at what we know so far about six exciting new electric car models due to come to life in the next 2 years.
2018 Nissan Leaf
The Nissan Leaf, along with the Tesla Model 3 and the Chevrolet Bolt, is one of the only affordable electric cars with a range of 200 miles or more. It is expected to go into production this year but it has big boots to fill. Its predecessor was a key figure in the first wave of modern electric cars and was also the best-selling electric vehicle ever. Expect the Nissan Leaf to be unveiled in all its glory by the end of the summer.
2018 Tesla Model 3
No other electric car is quite as highly anticipated as the Tesla Model 3. The hundreds of thousands of reservation holders are looking forward to a car with some of the Model S’s style, tech and performance capacity but with a more affordable price. Tesla has been relatively quiet as to the details of the new product but the car’s range will be at least 215 miles. Production is due to start in July and the company intends to build 5,000 per week by the end of the year.
2019 Audi e-tron
This car is lined up for production in 2019 at Audi’s Brussels plant. It will likely involve styling components from the e-tron quattro, which was first shown at the 2015 Motor Show in Frankfurt. While the European testing cycle gave the car a range of 310 miles, it is likely that retesting in the US will lower this figure to 250 miles.
2019 Jaguar I-Pace
Jaguar’s new electric vehicle will go into production just months after Audi’s new offering and will likely be in the same vein as its competitor. The styling of the car is expected to come predominantly from the I-Pace concept, which debuted in 2016 at the Auto Show in Los Angeles. This concept included a 90-kwh battery pack and a pair of electric motors. The car will have a 220 mile range.
2019 (?) Mercedes-Benz EQ
In 2016, at the Paris Motor Show, Mercedes-Benz showed it was ready to take on the electric car space with its EQ concept vehicle. Not only was this to be a new model, but also a sub-brand “EQ”, in the same line of thinking as BMW’s “i”. The car’s design will see the car with one electric motor per axel and is the first of ten vehicles Mercedes plans to create under the EQ brand.
2019 (?) Porsche Mission E
After debuting as a concept in 2015 at Frankfurt Motor Show, the Porsche Mission E is confirmed for production. The car will have an emphasis on performance, an appropriate focus for an established luxury sports car brand. It differs notably from offerings from other brands due to its sleek design. On top of all of this, the fast charging system allows the car to recharge to 80% within a mere 15 minutes.
