Industry is Responding to the UK’s Clean Growth Strategy

A plan has been laid out by the government to increase national income and output whilst reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It is known as the Clean Growth Strategy.

There are multiple aims of this ambitious strategy. As its name suggests, the overall goal is clean growth. It plans to do this by providing consumers and businesses with an affordable energy supply. This in turn should be able to increase productivity and allow for the employment of more people. All of which will be done with environmental protection in mind.

Naturally, this strategy will rely on the co-operation of industry to achieve what it sets out to accomplish. Since its public release, industry members have spoken out on how they feel about this plan. While so far responses have been generally positive, there are notable points that need to be considered before the strategy is put into play.

Nick Molho, Executive Director of the Aldersgate Group is enthusiastic about the Clean Growth Strategy. He believes that this kind of strong commitment towards combatting climate change will be welcomed by businesses. He further notes that this important milestone will do wonders for the UK’s credibility as regards climate change targets.

Similarly pleased with the UK’s proposal, Shaun Spiers, Executive Director of Green Alliance, is fully on board with a green approach to the future. He has termed the plan of action “a welcome move in the right direction”.

However, there are some industry members who are staying realistic with their feedback about the strategy. Energy Institute CEO, Louise Kingham acknowledges the importance of the Clean Growth Strategy but has commented that the UK’s plan needs solid delivery in order to generate the desired results.

Furthermore, Friends of the Earth Senior Climate Campaigner, Simon Bullock said there are some big gaps in the strategy that have to be addressed. He explained that there was a clear need for more policy.

Overall, it seems that commentators are pleased that the UK is taking notable steps towards a cleaner future for the country. But, that does not mean there isn’t room for further development of the Clean Growth Strategy.
